DataCell appointed automated solutions provider for DVT

Keyword: Machine vision

DataCell has just been appointed automated solutions provider (ASP) for DVT Corporation. In this capacity, it will be offering a full range of intelligent DVT sensors for the UK machine vision marketplace (Plate 3).

Recognised as the industry standard in the USA, DVT Sensors provide a fully integrated vision solution that is ideally suited to manufacturing applications. The sensors are compact, offering high functionality and providing seamless connectivity to PLCs or motion/robotic controllers via TCP/IP Ethernet.

The CCD-based sensors can be used in applications requiring automatic identification and vision data capture. For example, they can inspect parts and pass or fail them in accordance with the pre-programmed specification. The sensors can also detect the presence or absence of products or features of a product on the production line. The inspection results could then be output to SPC software for quality/process control.

The DVT solution comprises three elements:

  1. 1.

SmartImage sensor. Measuring only 114mm 55mm 40mm, the sensor offers a high resolution of 640 480 pixels with a built-in processor.

  2. 2.

FrameWork software. The SmartImage sensor is pre-loaded with FrameWork, a Windows-based package that allows for full programming and control of the sensors. It also provides connectivity to a wide variety of motion and robotic controllers, PLCs, software packages and HMI/SCADA packages.

  3. 3.

Smartlink. This enables the SmartImage sensor to function independently, without the need for a PC. Results can be transferred via Ethernet to a central PC, from which the operator can view, control and manage the inspection. Multiple inspections from different SmartImage sensors can be performed simultaneously. Data can also be stored and reviewed at a future date.

Rafael Gomez-Cabrera, director of European Marketing for DVT Europe, commented:

DataCell offers unparalleled expertise in the imaging marketplace. The company's support and training facilities are second to none, and we are delighted to appoint them as an ASP for SmartImage sensors. By combining our sophisticated products with DataCell's bespoke capabilities, we can offer clients a total, customised solution.

Mark Norris, sales and marketing director of DataCell Ltd, announced:

DVT Smartimage sensors have revolutionised the machine vision market. The systems are compact, making them ideal for production lines where space is at a premium. They are simple to program and use, so providing a very cost-effective solution for any industrial image inspection … Although we have just started marketing these systems, we have already experienced a very high demand, across a wide spread of industries – from food to paper processing plants. We believe that machine vision will come of age this year – and DVT is well poised to become the solution of choice.
