Kistler's measuring spark plug with integrated cylinder pressure sensor

Keywords: Kistler, Sensors

Combustion engines are facing ever-increasing demands for higher efficiency and lower emissions. Kistler's new measuring spark plug sensor type 6117B, with improved thermal shock behaviour, has increased sensitivity, which leads to a more accurate IMEP figure (see Plate 8).

Its higher insulation resistance gives a more uniform combustion cycle while the high natural frequency is ideal for knock measurement.

The 6117B sensor represents a significant advance in cylinder pressure measuring technology, which is of particular benefit where the cylinder head cannot be extensively machined to fit a pressure sensor or where it is necessary to take measurements with the cylinder head in its original condition.

The 6117B sensor is available in a variety of different configurations, sizes and heat ranges to suit most spark plugs. Hence it is mounted in place of the spark plug normally fitted to the engine.
