Instrument manufacturers worldwide will now benefit from City Technology's longer warranties on ten more of their top selling sensors for portable and fixed safety applications.

As evidence of City's unwavering confidence in the lifetime performance of these sensors, the longer warranties are being offered on ten more sensors bringing the total with a 2-year warranty to 11. The ten are:

  • the C12 oxygen sensor

  • the 6C oxygen sensor

  • the H2S and CO sensors in two of City's ranges - the 4-Series and 7-Series: these are the 4C0, 4CF, 7E and 7EF (CO sensors) and the 4HS, 4H, 7H and 7HH (H2S sensors) (see Plate 10).

Long-term, stringent laboratory testing is carried out at their manufacturing facility in Portsmouth, UK as part of City's on-going programme of Product Audit. Jonathan Gilby, Associate Director at City said: "We have led the world in the manufacture of sensors and in the case of our C/2, for over 20 years. This means that we can tap into the huge amounts of performance data that we have accumulated. Test results over the past 5 years confirm these sensors' 2-year minimum life-time operating capacity."

Part of the key to the longer life of the oxygen sensors has been modification and fine tuning of City's manufacturing processes. Gilby again: "By reducing the spread of the signal we have been able to slow the consumption of lead within the sensor and so lengthen life."

The announcment of the two-year warranty for these sensors brings to eleven the number of City sensors now available on these terms. The 40X in City's new Gold Series, was the first in the world to be offered with this two-year guarantee when it was launched last month.

Rob White, of City's Technical Support team: "Our customers are under constant pressure to produce smaller, lighter instruments, most of which contain three or four sensors detecting a range of gases. Longer sensor life considerably reduces the cost of instrument ownership for end-users both by simplifying servicing and replacement schedules and extending the period between them. This is just the kind of product news they appreciate."
