Data Instruments are introducing their AQ series of shaftless linear potentiometers. These compact waterproof products are specially designed to operate in wet and wash down environments and find application in such diverse areas as marine steering systems, in-tank level sensing systems, seismology and animated character control.

The AQ series features an external actuator which is magnetically coupled to a position feed back element. This actuator replaces the shaft which is usually found in traditional linear transducers and eliminates the need for additional stroke length mounting space.

Precious metal dual wipers and the company's proprietary MystR® conductive plastic technology ensure the ultimate in longevity and reliability. Units readily survive one billion repetitive dither cycles and have been tested successfully at pressures equivalent to submersion in up to 30 metres of water.

The AQ series have high level DC output generated without the need for supplementary electronics. Data Instruments say that position precision is maintained at power up and the units provide absolute continuous measurement, making them ideal for applications such as long-term leak detection in storage tanks.

Measurement ranges of 15-1,000mm are available and units have an operating temperature range of 40°C to +80°C.
