MetaLib and SFX at Cranfield University

Ex Libris has announced that Cranfield University, including the Royal Military College of Science, will be implementing the MetaLib and SFX products. A library-led analysis of the way in which Cranfield staff and students access information indicated that one of the major challenges faced by the University is the management of the content of the library's Web pages. The University felt that a portal solution that allowed cross-database searching, context-sensitive linking to full text, and a flexible, user-friendly interface would be ideal. Cranfield University expects the MetaLib software's ability to simultaneously search heterogeneous e-resources will ease the burden on staff and students who are seeking relevant information. Another key feature provided by MetaLib is the arrangement of resources in logical subject categories.

ALEPH at the Institut de France

Ex Libris France has announced that it has been awarded a contract to license, install and support the ALEPH 500 integrated library system at the library of the Institut de France, which is composed of five academies: the Académie française, Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-lettres, the Académie des Sciences, Académie des Beaux-arts, and Académie des Sciences Morales et Politiques. Elected for life by their peers whenever a vacancy occurs, the members of the Académie française painstakingly deliberate over every word of the most authoritative dictionary of the French language. An automated, well-functioning and well-endowed encyclopaedic library is essential to the work of the members.

Central Bank of Spain opts for ALEPH

The Banco de España, the Central Bank of Spain, has chosen the ALEPH 500 integrated library management system to replace its current DOBIS/LIBIS software. The Banco de España is the fifth central bank in Europe to select ALEPH for its library and documentation services. The four other ALEPH customers (two of which are also former DOBIS/LIBIS users) are the European Central Bank (ECB) in Frankfurt and the central banks of Holland, Italy, and Luxembourg.

Public library in China chooses ALEPH

The library of the Tianjin Economic and Technological Development Area (TEDA) in China has signed an agreement for licensing the ALEPH 500 integrated library system. The ALEPH 500 system will replace the library's current computer system (ILAS), which was developed in China. ALEPH 500 was selected from a field of competing products after demonstrating that it could provide a comprehensive range of functions that had been implemented successfully in other Chinese libraries. Established in 1984, TEDA is a manufacturing centre for more than 3,000 multinational and domestic companies. With a staff of about 70, and holdings of approximately 30,000 titles, the TEDA library is beginning to focus on digital collections and electronic services.
