This is a book for those who are competent mathematicians but also a book of beautiful pictures that have been produced by combining symmetry and chaos. The authors say that “[…] at first sight this seems to be paradoxical; merging order and disorder or yin and yan”.

The combination of the two is used to create pictures that in the main exhibit a different character from the more widely known fractal pictures. Many of the pictures generated do surprise the reader by their familiarity. An interesting exposition but not for everyone’s book shelf.
