Formation of a new neural network chapter

Technical reports

Formation of a new neural network chapter

Professor Leslie Smith of Stirling University, Scotland, UK, has agreed to act as interim chair of the new chapter of the Neural Network Society. (United Kingdom and the Republic of Northern Ireland IEEE Chapter)

The IEEE UKRI News Section reports that:

  • Neural Networks have become such an important topic in recent years that the IEEE has decided to form a Society. For those not familiar with IEEE structural issues, Society status means full equivalence for Neural Networks activities with those of the Computer Society, Signal Processing and the many other Societies. It is a major step forward for the influence and impact that Neural Network Activities will have on the IEEE.

The section also indicates that:

  • As part of our response to this, the UKRI Section has set up a Neural Network Chapter within our own area. The Chapter will organise events and meetings on topics related to Neural Computation within the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Further Information

Members who are interested in volunteering their time and effort to assist in the activities of the UKRI Neural Network Chapter are invited to send an expression of interest by E-mail to the Section Secretary, Sean McLoone at s.mcloone@qub.ac.uk. We will then get in touch with you about further developments.
