Having the word "Cyber" in the title of a book will not attract either cyberneticians or systemists to the text. For many it is a much mis-used word. The author, however, is a keen user of the word and has coined it to pre-fix many others viz;. cyberterrorist, cyberspace, etc. The topic he has chosen for his book is now a particularly important one. He describes the new type of "war" that has broken out between those who want to protect their information and those who for so many different reasons want to gain access to it, and as he puts it mount "a deadly cyber attack" on a system.
The type of attack is described and the defence is discussed in great depth. The author is well versed in the cyberterrorists subculture and provides some insight into the scenario that one must expect. As a result he does offer a variety of strategies for combating such attacks and on how a systems information should be protected. These attacks are not going to diminish, quite the contrary, unless governments worldwide can jointly address the problem chaos will undoubedly reign. In the meantime it is a question of defence in depth as in the conventional war. We need to know the attack weapons and develop our defences. Erbschloe offers good advice for the protection of our information infrastructures and tells us what can be done, particularly by national governments to fight the information war.
