7th Annual ERES Conference Bordeaux 2000

7th Annual ERES Conference Bordeaux 2000

Eamonn D'ArcyERES Executive Director, Centre for Spatial and Real Estate Economics, The University of Reading

ERES entered the new millennium on a high note with a very successful annual conference held in Bordeaux between June 14 and 16. Special thanks go to the conference organisers Bernard Thion and Martin Hoesli, their organising team and sponsors for making the 7th annual ERES conference such a successful event. This year's conference attracted papers of high quality with lively debate and discussion taking place. Over 120 papers were presented with participants attending from over 25 countries. Bordeaux and the previous six conferences have demonstrated in the most convincing way that property researchers around Europe consider the ERES annual conference as the premier forum to present their work and interact with fellow researchers. Joint initiatives such as the MCB University Press award for the best paper and the special issue of The Journal of Property Investment & Finance devoted to the best papers from the ERES conference have also made a significant contribution to the success and quality of the ERES conference.

The main objective of the European Real Estate Society, since its inception seven years ago, is to promote real estate research in Europe and improve the exchange of information in real estate and allied fields among academics and professionals. ERES through its conferences has increasingly established itself as a proactive and dynamic forum for engagement between property researchers and educators across Europe. The very productive nature of the discussions engendered by the papers presented at the Bordeaux conference clearly demonstrates the benefits of active research engagement. It is only through such exchanges that the property industry can ever hope to understand the potential implications for use, investment and development decisions of the significant structural changes that are taking place in both local and global economies on a daily basis.
