Pacific Rim Real Estate Society Seventh Annual Conference

Pacific Rim Real Estate Society Seventh Annual Conference

21-24 January (Sunday-Wednesday) 2001Adelaide, Australia

The Pacific Rim Real Estate Society (PRRES) will be holding its 7th Annual Conference in Adelaide, Australia, 21-24 January 2001. The conference will be held in the Adelaide CBD, at the University of South Australia's City East Campus – adjacent to Adelaide's main shopping precinct and the cosmopolitan care strip of the East End.

Conference program

This conference provides a major international forum for the presentation and discussion of the latest property-related research. Parallel sessions will follow the usual wide variety of themes, so that researchers and academics will be able to discuss their own favourite topic, in a refereed or non-refereed paper. A distinguishing feature of the PRRES conference is the supportive nature of the conference sessions, with the accent on helping property researchers. Newer researchers and graduate students are particularly encouraged to present their work. Outside of the formal conference sessions, there are plenty of opportunities to discuss your research with people of similar interests in an informal social setting.

In 2001, one major theme on offer will be Regional Cities (property markets, investment opportunities, tourist-oriented development, remote officing, residential lifestyle, infrastructure etc). Marketing and Delivery of Real Estate Education and Training, Innovative Real Estate Financing, and an Industry Day will also feature. There will be a brand new panel of suitably erudite, but above all interesting and challenging keynote speakers.

Following the establishment of the PhD Students' Forum at last year's conference, this will again be held in 2001 on 21 Sunday January from 2-4 p.m. The purpose of the forum is to share research ideas, experiences and matters of common interest. To register your interest in this forum, please contact David Parker by e-mail: david.parker@suncorpmetway.com.au

Award for best paper

An award will be made for the best refereed paper and presented to the recipient during the conference.

Women's breakfast

Following the establishment of the Women's Breakfast in 1999, this will again be held in 2001 on Tuesday 23 January at 7.30 a.m. The purpose of the breakfast is for women to share research ideas, experiences and matters of common interest of concern. To register your interest in this breakfast, please contact Sandy Bond by e-mail: bonds@cbs.curtin.edu.au

Conference pleasure

South Australia is the Wine State, with 70 per cent of Australia's wine production and Adelaide is the Wine Capital of Australia. There are dozens of wineries within an hour's drive of the CBD and, developer willing, the new South Australian Wine Centre will be operating within a short walk of the conference venue. You can be sure that local wines will be a feature of the Conference Dinner and the other entertainments that we are planning for you.

Accommodation

A conveniently located range of accommodation to suit all budgets will be available within easy walking distance of the conference venue. For those who had their hearts set on a beach resort for PRRES 2001, we can do that too! Accommodation is available at the Stamford Grand on the beach at Glenelg, with the bonus of transport to the conference venue on a vintage tram. Accommodation rates in Adelaide are reasonable – from around AU$100 at a number of 3.5-star hotels in the CBD to AU$220 a night at the 5-star Radisson Playford.

Events

For those of you want to spend a little more time in Adelaide before or after the conference, major events in Adelaide around the conference dates are: the Jacobs Creek Tour Down Under from 16-21 of January – an internationl road cycling race staged over a six-day duration, featuring top European riders; the International One-Day Cricket Series at historic Adelaide Oval on 25 and 26 of January – featuring Australia, the West Indies and Zimbabwe. See the Tourism SA Website for things to do in Adelaide: http://www.visit-southaustralia.com.au

Weather

The weather in Adelaide towards the end of January is usually fine and warm to hot, with an average maximum temperature from 21-24 January over the last four years of 26.5°C, with a range from 23°C to 36°C.

Registration

Registration will be around AU$300 (US$180). Please note that a limited amount of funding (up to A$300/student) is available for graduate students of PRRES-associated universities to attend and present a refereed paper at the annual PRRES conference. To apply, students must submit a refereed paper and have a letter signed by the appropriate head of department sent to the conference organiser, details as indicated below. For further details contact the organiser.

So come to Adelaide – we're pulling out all the corks to make you (and us) forget about the disappointment of missing Fiji!
