By the author of E‐Business (R)evolution (1999), this assessment of pervasive computing (the combination of high‐speed and intelligent devices) takes a highly positive look at how “over the next few years, PC‐based communication will become part of a much larger network that will connect not only PCs, but also mobile phones, refrigerators, stoves, and television sets”. It appears in three parts: where the future begins (with five chapters on what is coming, mobile commerce, home automation systems, technologies of the future, and applications in the near future); future strategies (four chapter‐length vignettes for the B2B world, each illustrating a problem and possible solution); and future impact (one chapter assessing the likely future of the Internet a quarter century hence). The author is a German‐based Internet consultant for Hewlett‐Packard.
