This important select committee of the UK government has attracted many references in the press. Select committees often produce very thorough work and are politically very influential. ILDS will carry a review and summary of the report when it is published.

Heavyweight STM specialists have staged a robust defence of their journal publishing against mounting opposition from supporters of the emerging “open access” model. They were speaking at a hearing of the parliamentary science and technology select committee's ongoing inquiry into the journals market. The publishers told the session that while they were experimenting with the open access model, it was currently uneconomic and threatened to undermine the quality of UK scientific research.
