Theses and the ILL librarian's nightmare
Theses and the ILL librarian's nightmare
It is reported that Robert Gordon University in Scotland is heading a project to develop a national strategy for "e-theses". An e-thesis could contain hyperlinks and video clips. The consortium that won the funding from JISC included the British Library which at present deals with the large majority of requests in the UK from its collection of over 160,000 theses. These have been collected over the last 35 years by patient negotiating with over 100 autonomous universities. Research in the USA suggests that theses that are available electronically are consulted more often.
