Japanese document delivery project

Keywords Japan, Document supply

The National Co-ordinating Committee on Japanese Library Resources is running a nine-month document delivery project between ten North American research or academic libraries and five Japanese national university libraries. The project is designed to improve information access for scholars and researchers and to promote mutual understanding between Japan and the USA. The pilot started on 1 July 1999 and will run to 31 March 2000 and will focus on photocopies of journal articles and book chapters.

Both the North American and Japanese libraries will send and receive materials using Ariel e-mail attachments. The project will be evaluated in April 2000 when it will be decided whether or not to continue the trial. If continued the project will probably be expanded to include the loan of original documents. The results of the project will be announced on the Internet in April 2000.
