Singapore has new library database system

The National Library Board of Singapore has implemented a new library database system. For all users there is a new catalogue which offers the facility for easy and advanced searching. For library members there is also access to check their accounts. This allows members to reserve items, check the status of their borrowed items and renew them if required.
The National Library Board was formed on 1 September 1995 with the main objective of setting up a "world class" library system for Singapore and so expand the learning capacity of the nation. The current structure is a three-tier hierarchy of libraries in Singapore - regional, community and community children's libraries, which are designed to cater for Singaporeans from all walks of life. There is also the National Reference Library which provides reference and information services to the general public.
With the increasing application of information technology in libraries, the National Library Board intends to increase accessibility and usefulness of its library services and facilities. One of the ways it has managed this is to provide Singapore ONE terminals in many of its libraries. Singapore ONE (One Network for Everyone) is intended to be the first network which delivers interactive, multimedia applications and services to everyone in Singapore.
