The National Library of China which, in terms of size of collections, is the largest library in Asia and the fifth largest in the world is now an OCLC member.

Located in Beijing and established in 1909 the National Library of China has between 6,000 and 7,000 visitors per day to its 30 reading rooms. It houses the largest collection of Chinese literature in the world with 21 million items. Some items in its collection date back 700 years and it inherited collections from the imperial libraries of the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties.

``By providing our Chinese bibliographic records to OCLC, we will enable libraries all over the world to share in our rich collection of information resources,'' said Zhou Heping, Deputy Director of the National Library of China.
