Textiles, clothing and design

The Faculty of Textile Technology, University of Zagreb (Croatia), organised the 3rd International Textile Clothing & Design Conference traditionally known as “Magic World of Textiles”. The Conference took place at the International Centre of Croatian Studies, in Dubrovnik (Figure 1) from 8 to 11 of October 2006.

Figure 1 Dubrovnik – exceptional city included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. “Those who seek paradise on Earth should come to Dubrovnik and see Dubrovnik” (Bernard Shaw)

The purpose was to organise an international forum for presenting and exchanging the knowledge and results of research, as well as to make possible for all of us (and the rest of the textile world, of course) to get to know the recent research and development trends of the research in the field of textile and garment technologies, fashion design and marketing of textiles and garment products including environment protection, which proved successful.

From the 242 papers received, the members of the International Review Committee accepted 184 papers which were presented at the 3rd ITC&DC; and published as conference proceedings. The papers were separated into seven sections of specific research areas:

  7. 7.

Section F: Design and marketing of textile and clothing (29).

It is obvious that in today's global village, there is no other road to survival but co-operation and global implementation of knowledge. There is simply no time or place for petty competitions and waiting for a more favourable moment, especially so in the field of knowledge and research. Not only that it should be global, it must be globally available, or otherwise... Anyhow, we regard the benefits of co-operation invaluable and we plan to contribute, as much as we can, to the global knowledge and understanding and to the exchanging of ideas.

On behalf of the scientific and organising committees of the 3rd ITC&DC 2006, I would like to express my sincere thanks to the International Journal of Clothing Science & Technology editorial boards for the opportunity to publish this selection of papers from the Conference in the IJCST, and in this way to further promote and disseminate the results of this Conference, for the ultimate benefit of the textile and garment international community.
