Rules on CO2 from vans have entered into force

Article Type: News From: International Journal of Climate Change Strategies and Management, Volume 3, Issue 4

An EU regulation limiting carbon dioxide emissions from new light commercial vehicles such as vans to 175 g/km from 2017 has entered into force. This target will be phased in between 2014 and 2017. Each year from October 2013 the European Commission will publish emission targets for each manufacturer for the coming year. There are fines for those exceeding their targets. There are also certain derogations and super-credits for greener vehicles. The law will be reviewed by January 2013. The commission will then produce a report on the feasibility of achieving a 147 g/km limit for 2020. By 2014, it might also propose to extend the rules to other vehicles such as lorries weighing up to 12 tonnes.
