Purpose – Describes how human resource managers at the Metropolitan Police Service (UK) have supported the organization to analyze its values and how these values are at the core of the organization’s new leadership development academy. Design/methodology/approach – Discusses the problems facing the Metropolitan Police Service that resulted in the development of new values for the police force. Points out that organizations need managers and leaders who will embody these values and describes the management initiatives that are being launched at the Metropolitan Police Service to do this, particularly the new leadership academy. Quotes from the organization’s director of leadership development about the way that values-based leadership is being developed at the academy. Findings – Quotes the Metropolitan Police Service as an example of an organization that is driving organizational change through its values-based leadership training. Originality/value – Describes the role that the leadership academy at Metropolitan Police Service is playing in embedding new organizational values. ISSN: 1358-6297 Reference: 37AH581
