Purpose – Describes why Jaguar and Land Rover won the 2005 Women in Science, Engineering and Technology Employer of the Year Award (UK). Discusses the initiatives in the company that support equal opportunities for women. Design/methodology/approach – Describes the ways in which Jaguar and Land Rover has implemented policies that enable employees to balance their family and work responsibilities, and developed a culture within management and on the shop floor that welcome a diverse workforce. Insets summarize the Dignity at Work training that the firm has developed and its maternity leave policy. Findings – Underlines that the company acknowledges the need to continue to develop its policies and practices but points to the current success of the company in supporting both male and female employees to balance work and family. Originality/value – Presents a case study of a firm in a male-dominated industry that has successfully developed its equal opportunities and diversity management.ISSN: 0268-7143Reference: 35AJ929
