World Class performance in the business centres industry

World Class performance in the business centres industry

Keywords: Business centres, Competitiveness, United Kingdom

If your company chases averages it is wasting your time! According to financial analysts Plimsoll Publishing, the only way to compete in the business centres industry is to compete on a "world class" scale.

Analysing the top echelon (12.5 per cent) of 281,037 UK companies, Plimsoll has located 95 companies in the business centres industry who are currently performing to a "world class" standard. These companies are amongst the best in the UK and they are in your market. In essence, this research proves that how your business performs has little to do with what you make or what you sell.

The Plimsoll Portfolio Analysis: Business Centres contains an individual analysis of 308 UK business centres companies, allowing the user to see the commercial advantages these 95 "world class" companies have over the rest.

So what does it take to be a world class player? (see Table I)

Sales growth

World class companies are growing at 64 per cent per year. Remarkably, 24 business centres companies are currently beating this average. This came as quite a surprise as the industry average for sales growth is 9.7 per cent.

Pre-tax profit growth

World class pre-tax margin growth is 253 per cent on average. This looks spectacular compared to the business centres' average increase in profits of 12.1 per cent. However, 18 companies in the industry have beaten this fantastic average.

Pre-tax return on capital

World class average return on capital is an excellent 35 per cent. But the business centres industry should not be daunted by this as 13 companies achieved this level of performance.

Sales per employee

A key figure in any industry, the world class figure of £467,000 is enviable, but five business centres companies managed to beat this figure.
