BMI Special Reports

Two reports produced by Building Maintenance Information, a division of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in the UK, have recently been released. An Information Guide for Facilities Management (Serial 259 - ISBN 1 900858 13 4) provides a detailed guide to information sources for building maintenance and facilities management. Entries are arranged in alphabetical order from Advertising Standards to Zinc Development Association. It also includes a useful acronym index as well as a subject index. The guide is specifically designed for the UK market. Each entry contains information on contact addresses, publications and library services. With the advent of the World Wide Web it is hard to see much of a future for hard copy directories like this one. An omission which would be of particular use to users is an Internet address or URL.

The other report Computer Aided Maintenance and Facilities Management Systems for Building Maintenance (Serial 260 - ISBN 1 900858 14 2) is likely to be particularly useful for facilities managers considering investments in computer-aided FM. The product profiles details of information about the history of the various products; system functionality and types of clients using the systems. This report may well be of interest to facilities managers outside of the UK.

Copies of the reports can be obtained from Building Maintenance Information, 85/87 Clarence St, Kingston upon Thames, Surrey KT1 1RB, UK.
