Awards for Excellence

is the recipient of the journal's Outstanding Paper Award for Excellence for his paper

"Making Botswana an information society: current developments"

which appeared in The Electronic Library, Vol. 22 No. 2, 2004

Stephen Mutula is Senior Lecturer in the Department of Library and Information Studies at the University of Botswana. He holds a Master's degree (and a Postgraduate Diploma) in Library and Information Science, a Bachelor of Education Degree in Mathematics and Chemistry and a Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science. He is due to complete his doctoral degree (DLitt. et Phil.) at the University of Johannesburg in South Africa during 2005. He is a former recipient of the Literati Club Award for Excellence 2002 for his article titled "Financing public universities in Eastern and Southern Africa: implications for information services", which was published in The Bottom Line: Managing Library Finances, Vol. 14 No. 3, 2002. He also received an award for the best paper presented at the 14th Standing Committee of Eastern, Central and Southern Africa Librarians (SCECSAL 2000), 10-15 April 2000 in Windhoek, Namibia, entitled "Libraries of the Future: Implications for University Libraries in Eastern and Southern Africa". He serves on a number of international editorial boards, including Online Information Review; Journal of Interlibrary Loan, Document Delivery and Electronic Reserve; and International Yearbook of Library and Information Management. He has published over 30 articles in leading international journals, 12 articles in non-refereed journals, and 31 conference papers. He teaches at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the areas of business information systems, digital libraries, databases systems, and organizing internet resources.
