Abstract
Virtual documents have become a reality with the widespread use of the technology available. This paper considers the impact of the concepts involved in virtual documents in the commercial arena. By reference to practical examples where companies have implemented virtual document systems in order to achieve profit and/or corporate advantage the paper considers the significance of standards and the direction they will need to take.
