Abstract

The use of computers in many areas of daily life is now a fact. Banking, sales, transportation, education, and recreation are all influenced by the use of computers. The distinction between “adaptive” and “normal” equipment is breaking down as the objective of “user friendliness” becomes the accepted technology standard. A current tenet of microcomputers is that the friendliness of a computer has more to do with sophistication of the hardware and software than the physical condition of the user. As we move into the twenty‐first century, old concepts of competence, independence, intelligence, and freedom may be put aside in favor of ideals that will empower everyone.
