Abstract

After 20 years of evolution based on digital computers, electronic displays and data highways, the modern airliner cockpit and the systems with which it interfaces have reached a significant level of technology. The “big three” aircraft constructors, Boeing, Airbus Industrie and McDonnell Douglas now include, as standard, “wall‐to‐wall” electronic displays, ARINC 429 or 629 data highways, warning and system status displays as well as flight management systems.
