Abstract

MORE than thirty years ago, Union Carbide invented a device based on detonating gas mixtures of oxygen and acetylene for making coatings from fine powders. The most successful of these was a family of tungsten carbide/cobalt materials which rapidly became established as the industry standard for thin, wear resistant coatings.
