Abstract

HORNET'S EYES — Radar microwave units for the US Navy's F‐18 strike fighter undergo testing by engineers at Hughes Aircraft Company in California, where the radar system is being developed under contract to the McDonnell Aircraft Company. Separated in test fixtures, the microwave units are being integrated with the rada's data and signal processors. The first tests of the entire radar system are underway prior to the beginning of flight testing, scheduled for February 1978. Initial flight tests will be conducted with a specially modified T‐39 Saberliner. The all‐digital, multi‐mode radar system is designed to achieve a new level of reliability of more than 100 hours between failures.
