Abstract
Manufacturing a wide range of advanced light‐alloy forgings and pressings from wing spars of 10ft to model connecting rods lin. long, and all to stringent AID inspection standards, the Redditch works of High Duty Alloys Ltd required two heat treatment furnaces. These had to provide temperature control to an accuracy of ±2°C throughout the heating chamber. Also the discharge time, the time from when the furnace roof starts to lift until the charge is submersed in the quench tank, had to be kept to a minimum to avoid any adverse effect.
