Abstract

A resonance combustion apparatus comprises a combustion chamber provided with an inlet and outlet and a uni‐directional valve provided only in the inlet, the uni‐directional valve comprising spaced fixed blades and a rotor member provided with an annulus of blades between the fixed blades and disposed between upstream and downstream openings of the uni‐directional valve so that air passing from the upstream opening to the downstream opening must pass between the rotor blades. The rotor blades are secured to the rotor member so as to extend from the upstream opening obliquely rearwards in respect of the direction of rotation of the annulus to thereby admit air from the upstream opening so long as the upstream pressure exceeds the downstream pressure, but to repel any reverse flow of gases at the down‐stream opening when the downstream pressure exceeds the upstream pressure.
