Abstract
IT has frequently been stated that mass production of airframes is impossible, but this is obviously far from correct when one considers that Germany is producing them in largo numbers. On the other hand, no one familiar with airframe production will suggest that the making of aircraft can yet be standardised to the same degree as the motor‐car body industry. The design of cars is relatively stabilised, in the main, although varying in detail. The evolution of airframes is likely to progress continuously at considerable speed for some years. It is also true that very little demand, in fact need, existed for special plant until 1936. Even at that time, Germany was already in full production, if not on mass production lines as understood in the car industry, at least semi‐mass production.
