A German View of Buffeting: A Comparison between the British and German Investigations into the Meopham Accident
Abstract
AS a sequel to the investigation into the accident which occurred at Meopham to the G‐AAZK in July 1930, experiments on tail buffeting were undertaken by the National Physical Laboratory. The reports on these experiments appeared almost simultaneously with the German report on the Meopham accident, so that no opportunity for comparison was available to either the British or German compilers. As the agreement between the German and the earlier of the English results was far from satisfactory, a useful purpose may be served by comparing the results of the later English experiments with those of the German investigations of the accident. Apart from this comparison, the English reports contain much that is interesting, and repay careful consideration for their intrinsic value.
