Abstract
The University of Leicester was the first among the universities of the United Kingdom to establish a bookshop under its sole ownership. This paper deals with the circumstances in which the bookshop was set up in 1958, the role of its Management Committee, the services it offers, its success as a trading venture, and its prospects for further development.
