FOCAL POINT: A COMPOSITE RECORD FOR THE CONTROL OF PERIODICALS USING A VISIBLE SIGNALLING DEVICE

Abstract

An article on the mechanics of recording the receipt and subsequent action of a journal may seem of too lowly a nature to be associated with those on theories and problems of documentation, but as the prime function of documentation is the ready location of a specific item when it is required, the simplification of as many aspects as possible of the documentation process is basically of equal importance. The description of a device, or rather of the organization of the papers on which the information is recorded and of the routines for noting the most information with the least effort, is therefore presented for the inspection of the practising documentalist.
