Abstract

Research Committee No. 10 of the International Sociological Association that met prior to Uppsala in 1978, organised a workshop at Chuo University, Tokyo, November 6–8, 1980, entitled Employment and Participation. The following is a brief summary of most of the papers presented during the three days in the Japanese capital. Starting with reports focused on less industrialised societies and concluding with those focused on more developed countries. Some theoretical papers and a survey of some innovative approaches are also discussed. The largest group of authors was the Japanese contingent, followed by four authors coming from India, and one or two authors from Malaysia, Korea, Sweden, and one from Finland, Denmark, Yugoslavia, Hungary, Czechoslovakia and England as well as Australia. A Canadian colleague and myself were the only persons from the Americas.
