Endowed Libraries and the Cost of Living

Abstract

Libraries are quiet places, remaining for the most part aside from the world's upheavals and setbacks. But this is not to say that they are unaffected by them. It is a sad commentary on the costliness of our times that a growing number of endowed libraries are facing balance sheets which, lacking outside help, add up to extinction.
