The Future of Public Libraries

TO‐DAY, when so much is astir in the library world, it is desirable that we should try to envisage the future possibilities of public librarianship. For if we have not a fairly well‐defined objective and clear ideas of what a real service should be there is a danger that we may do things which will need to be undone, that we shall miss something vital, or stop too soon.
