Abstract

KENT MODULAR ELECTRONICS HAS INSTALLED AN ASSEMBLY SYSTEM WITH TWO SCARA ROBOTS FOR INSERTION OF MOST OF THE COMPONENTS — AXIAL, RADIAL AND ODDFORM — IN PCBS FOR ITS CUSTOMISED DISPLAY MONITORS ‐ A growing company, faced with labour shortage and the need for consistently high quality, naturally tends to consider automation as a means of tackling both problems at the same time. Kent Modular Electronics (KME) is quite a small company, making colour and monochrome monitors for data display in great variety to customers' specifications, at a volume approaching 20,000 a year. So when the company decided to investigate opportunities for automation there was also a requirement for flexibility — and it was this that led to consideration of a robotic solution.
