New Polar Instruments PCB repair system supports most popular CAD formats

Article Type: New products From: Circuit World, Volume 37, Issue 1

Polar Instruments have announced the latest generation of the GRS500 CADView paperless PCB repair system, with support extended to 30 popular CAD formats as well as Windows 7 and 64-bit Windows. The system also combines dynamic linking to PDF schematics and a unique virtual X-Ray mode.

Martyn Gaudion, CEO, explains, “The new GRS500 CADView system provides a single, powerful viewer which enables OEM and CEM repair centres to carry out advanced trouble-shooting of faults in raw or assembled PCBs. By replacing paper schematics with a virtual system, the fault-finding and repair process becomes significantly easier and faster. The new generation adds a further six CAD formats for maximum flexibility and return on investment.”

The virtual X-Ray mode is unique to the GRS500 CADView system. Displaying only the faulty net, the virtual X-Ray superimposes the main layer onto the ghosted path of the net as it passes through the PCB. This allows technicians to visually follow the route of a faulty net as it disappears and reappears through different PCB layers.

A single mouse-click takes the technician from the X-Ray view of the fault to the corresponding point on a PDF of the schematic, viewed with the latest Adobe® Reader. Dynamic linking eliminates time-consuming manual searches of hard copy paper schematics.

A range of licensing options provides the flexibility for OEMs and CEMs to find the most cost-effective license for their usage level. Time-limited evaluation versions of GRS500 CADView are available now from www.polarinstruments.com
