B2B Compliance, the initiative of the Trade Association GAMBICA, has been accepted as a member of the WEEE Forum, the European network of not-for-profit organisations operating waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) compliance schemes under the WEEE Directive.

The Chief Executive of GAMBICA, who is also a member of the Board of B2B Compliance, Geoff Young, commented “the WEEE Forum, previously focused upon consumer products, believes that we will make an important contribution to issues relating to compliance within the B-to- B sector. Our work and expertise developed over the past two years is now being acknowledged by industry and we are delighted that B2B Compliance has become the definitive scheme for the sector”.

Pete Lawson, Deputy Director of GAMBICA and fellow Board member of B2B Compliance added “this now gives our members the capability of resolving the European dimensions to their business – through our network we can facilitate Producer compliance throughout the EU”.

The scheme, “B2B Compliance”, was established following extensive consultation by a GAMBICA members' taskforce. This comprises over 30 companies, together with DEFRA and DTI, and will be registering as a compliance scheme for the business-to-business sector with a focus on monitoring and control instrumentation (category 9), medical devices (category 8) and related IT equipment (category 3) of the WEEE Directive.

The scheme will take over many of the legal obligations of its members in complying with WEEE legislation.
