Frontline PCB Solutions announces the release of version 1.7 of its InPlane manufacturing process planning system. The new version includes a product costing module, automatic panel design, bill of materials (BOM) editor, multiple "hold'' mechanism and a new CAM graphic viewer.

InPlan is part of Frontline's integrated InGineeringe suite, automating the entire pre- production process. InGineering is composed of a central engineering database, an intelligent quotation system, a concurrent process planning client, an advanced CAM system and a cross- department communication tool.

Frontline, an Orbotech-Valor company, is a leading provider of integrated pre-production software solutions. Main features of Inplan include the following.

Product costing options

InPlan v1.7 introduces a new costing module. It may be used as a complementary cost engine for the e-quote quotation management system, during the sales quotation process, or by process engineers for manufacturing cost assessment purposes.

Panel design subsystem

The panel design system provides tools for optimizing automatic and manual design of a panel layout. Design is based on part size, shape and a library of panel related figures. Information is taken directly from the ODB++Profile. In addition, a Panel Design Wizard generates lists of penalization options.

BOM editor

In InPlan v1.7 the BOM can be updated with all materials required to build the product, or any of its sub assemblies. The BOM editor provides various views including grouping of processes, and quantities per part or panel. Other options such as alternative materials and process materials are available as well.

Multiple "hold" mechanism

InPlan's hold mechanism allows placing a released job, process or tool on hold, whereby manufacturing the item cannot proceed for any reason.

New graphic CAM viewer

The CAM viewer provides technical drawings of production layers, along with viewing enhancement capabilities. In addition, it offers powerful tools for image enlargement, profile creation, measurement and viewing feature details and attributes.

Other enhancements, new infrastructure and administration utilities have been added, including:

  • run any flow from every subsystem;

  • support for user profiles;

  • panel library;

  • additional support for CAM instructions;

  • native language support;

  • additions to the API library;

  • configuration manager; and

  • costing library.
