A moderated announcement list for happenings in Australian libraries

The purpose of this section is to alert readers of Asian Libraries to new products, services and resources that may be of professional value or interest. Information is taken from publicity provided by the producers and is not evaluated or assessed for accuracy. Inclusion in this section does not mean the Editors of Asian Libraries or MCB University Press in any way endorse a particular product, service or resource. An item listed here subsequently may, if appropriate, also be reviewed in a relevant section of Asian Libraries (a new journal, for example, in the Reviews section).

A moderated announcement list for happenings in Australian libraries

There has been no single e-mail list which people interested in Australian libraries could monitor to find out what is happening. While there are many library-related lists in Australia, all are discussion lists. Most of them are listed in the Griffith University e-mail lists directory http://www.gu.edu.au/gint/ozlists/library.html. People interested in events in Australia related to libraries are therefore forced to subscribe to many lists if they want wide coverage of what is happening. The purpose of ozlib-announce is to provide an alternative. It also provides an alternative to those who wish to disseminate information, as they can now post to this one list rather than having to cover many.

The ozlib-announce list is moderated and contributions to the list will be restricted to announcements relating to:

  • Australian libraries and their services;

  • major publishing in Australia of interest to libraries;

  • databases mounted in Australia or containing material related to Australia;

  • conferences in Australia of interest to the library community;

  • regulation by the Australian governments of libraries, associated industries and the Internet.

You can join by sending the message "SUB ozlib-announce (your name)" to autoshare@Tony-Barry.emu.id.au Membership is invited from:

  • those who want a broad information service on matters related to Australian libraries via one list uncluttered by discussion;

  • people who need to make announcements of interest to the wider library community;

  • list owners of Australian library lists who would like a source of information which they could use to selectively forward to their own membership.

The list software commands will be e-mailed to you when you subscribe. The software does provide a digest option which restricts messages to one per day for those who choose that option. The list is described further at its home page http://Tony-Barry.emu.id.au/interests/lists/ozlib-announce/index.html As well as access to the archives via e-mail they are mounted at http://Tony-Barry.emu.id.au/interests/lists/archives/index.html
