Pre and post-processing FEA software

Keywords debis IT services, Software, Finite element analysis

Medina, universal pre- and post-processing software developed specifically to maximise the performance and effectiveness of all leading industry-standard finite element analysis (FEA) solvers, is now available in the UK from debis IT Services.

Designed by debis – part of the DaimlerChrysler Group – to meet the exacting requirements of aerospace and automotive industry users, the new software supports Abaqus, Ansys, Dyna3D, Marc, MSC/Nastran, Pamcrash, Patran, Pertnas and Star-CD solvers.

Medina/PreProcessing is said to simplify the preparation of CAD data for analysis by providing a wide range of powerful editing and control functions. It offers a direct interface with industry-standard CATIA solutions and supports both STEP and VDA formats to ensure simple CAD data import. It also incorporates easy-to-use tools that reportedly enables duplicated, overlapping or incomplete geometry to be rectified quickly and effectively.

This software is also said to provide comprehensive surface and volume meshing routines that can be applied either manually or automatically, as required. The application reportedly allows mesh and element properties to be defined locally or globally, while its inclusion of solverspecific functionality enables mesh quality to be checked and optimised easily. It also permits models to be defined in layers, parts, sets or super-elements in order to assign properties and manage component variants efficiently.

According to debis, Medina/PostProcessing incorporates powerful and comprehensive presentational options for statics, dynamics, CFD and frequency analysis, so that users are provided with fast, exact interpretations of analysis results.

debis informs us that the software enables different load cases or models to be compared and displayed simultaneously. In addition, it permits users to simply combine load cases arithmetically to obtain new results without the need to re-run time-consuming solver programs.

It is also reported that Medina/PostProcessing's intuitive colour-coded presentation of scalar, vectorial or tensorial fields can also be combined easily with animation or exploded product views. Animations can be converted to MPEG film with a single mouse click and the transparent background of the system's PNG format simplifies the integration of results into other documents.

Medina has been designed to operate under industry-standard UNIX environments. It is complemented by a further range of specialist software applications from debis covering design, manufacturing, analysis and customer relationship management (CRM) operations. These are backed by the company's comprehensive IT and business systems solutions capability, which encompasses every stage from initial consultation and software development to implementation, support and outsourced system operation.
