Radar scan converter
Keywords Calibre UK, Radar
Bradford based Calibre UK launched its new RSC1500P1 radar scan converter at the recent Defence Systems & Equipment International (DSEi) Show.
The RSC1500P1 radar scan converter is described as a high performance, commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) single-slot PCI card that uses dedicated digital signal processing circuits to provide an extremely high quality output image without loading the host CPU or PCI bus. This means the image is updated in real-time in response to the radar input signals and is not dependent upon the other functions being performed by the host computer.
Designed and manufactured in the USA by Folsom Research the RSC1500P1 receives radar video, trigger and azimuth signals and processes these in real time to generate a high-resolution radar window.
Said to be extremely flexible, the RSC1500P1 has been designed to interface with virtually any radar unit and to provide extremely high quality output images. Two analogue radar inputs, one eight-bit digital radar input and two single-bit radar inputs can be mixed if synchronised via peak detection from the selected channels. Single ended or differential ACP/ARP signals are accepted. Serial, parallel and synchro-resolver azimuth interfaces are available as options. A display reference digital gyrocompass input is an option for North-up display on mobile systems.
The RSC1500P1 has been designed specifically for ground based monitoring systems including air traffic control and coastal surveillance applications. Calibre is the appointed UK/European distributor of Folsom Research, the well-respected US-based manufacturer of radar scan converters for military and commercial use.
