Bellhouse Hartwell & Company Limited, a member of Hampson Industries plc, plans to add a total of 3,200sq.m (34,400 sq.ft) to its existing manufacturing area in'Westhoughton, Lancashire. The development has been supported by a Department of Trade & Industry grant, secured with the help of Business Link, Bolton & Bury, and will result in the employment of up to 60 skilled operators and other engineering staff within the next 18 months.
The first phase of the expansion plans is a new manufacturing facility constructed on the existing car park which will be relocated on the 3.24 hectare (8 acre) property. The new building will be adjacent to the current factory areas and add 1,700 sq.m (18,300 sq.ft) by the end of May this year.
The company, a major supplier to the country's aircraft manufacturers, was established shortly before the Second World War and manufactures, repairs and overhauls fabricated commercial and military aircraft parts. Some of the current buildings on site date back to the 1850s when they were used for textile manufacture and the ceiling level has been a restriction on the size of fabrications that can made. The new development will enable larger structures such as wing and fuselage sections to be accommodated.
