The Racal/Honeywell SATCOM team report that they have joined forces with OmniPless (Pty) Ltd of South Africa to provide a new lightweight, low-cost SCS-1000 Mini-M Aero SATCOM system to the aviation industry. Racal/Honeywell are responsible for the exclusive marketing, distribution and product support for the SCS-1000 Mini-M Aero SATCOM.
The SCS-1000 Mini-M is based on the Inmarsat land mobile Mini-M and is thought to be an attractive SATCOM choice for small to medium-sized business jet and turboprop operators. Its cost is thought to be significantly lower than other SATCOM systems and its components are said to be small, which allows for flexible installation options. The product claims to be currently the only type approved Mini-M Aero system and utilises the spot beam capabilities of the latest generation Inmarsat-3 satellites.
The SCS-1000 is a single-channel aeronautical communications system which supports standard (or secure) voice, fax or personal computer (PC) data transmission. All antenna steering control sensors, GPS and attitude sensors are integral to the antenna, reportedly making it independent of other aircraft systems. Other system components include an antenna control unit (ACU), power supply unit (PSU), telephone unit (TPU), and handset.
Leo Gallagher, commercial director of Racal Avionics, commented:

Honeywell OneLink Communication Services is also offering Mini-M Aero communications services to go along with the SCS-1000 Mini-M Aero Satcom. OneLink Mini-M Aero customers will receive the same service already enjoyed by OneLink Communication Services Aero H, Aero H+ and Aero I customers, including one invoice for all satellite communication services, 24-hour-a-day access to the Customer Service.
