Courtaulds Aerospace launch quick response service (QRS) centre

Courtaulds Aerospace, manufacturer of coatings and sealants recently opened a new purpose built coatings facility.

The opening follows an investment of over £350,000 in state-of-the-art automated equipment and premises. The new centre, the only one of its kind in Europe offers overnight delivery on fully qualified topcoats in a wide range of colours, including the new advanced Desothane® High Solids Topcoat as well as CA40000 High Durability Topcoat. The typical downtime costs of an aircraft for a major airline can exceed £60,000 per day, and so rapid turnaround from receipt of order provides a major benefit to customers. At the Shildon-based Quick Response Service (QRS) a range of over 1,750 paint colours can now be produced and despatched to arrive on site within a 24 hour period anywhere in the UK. Courtaulds plan to extend this service to cover the entire European market.

The traditionally long process of matching, producing and testing a specific colour for despatch to a customer has been cut down to a few hours. In a year long trial of the service, over 200 orders of Topcoat and the associated primers have been despatched with 100 per cent accuracy and within the 24 hour time frame.
