Veeco introduces table-top optical profiler at MRS

Article Type: New materials and equipment From: Anti-Corrosion Methods and Materials, Volume 55, Issue 2.

Veeco released the Wyko® NT9100e Optical Profiling System (Figure 1) at the fall 2007 Materials Research Society meeting in Boston on November 27, 2007. The newest member of the ninth- generation of Wyko white light interferometers delivers the performance and most of the capabilities of full-sized production profiling systems in a convenient and affordable table-top footprint. The NT9100 system is ideal for many applications in research, industrial, quality control and failure analysis applications, and was in constant action at the Veeco booth.

The first NT9100 was previously installed at Colorado-based Ascent Solar Technologies, Inc. in October, where it is being used for emerging photovoltaic metrology applications. In addition to the solar market, other key applications for the product include optics, aerospace, automotive, biomedical devices, coatings, film thickness, surface topography and shape, and many more.

John Wissinger, PhD, Vice President, Business Unit Manager for Veeco's Optical Industrial Metrology business, commented, “Our new table-top NT9100 provides most of the advantages of production-level metrology platforms, bringing unprecedented performance and features to a compact platform that fits into any laboratory, and it offers an outstanding value to today's research and production engineers.” Key product features of the NT9100 include sub- nanometer vertical resolution; hands-free measurement automation for focus, magnification, intensity, and scan length; a fully programmable 150mm XY stage; long-life; extremely uniform illumination; and excellent reliability.
