Heat transfer specialist Crane Heatex has announced a partnership agreement with one of Germany's leading heat exchanger companies, A.P.I Schmidt Bretten, which it believes will expand even further the range of heat transfer solutions which it can provide to its customer base.

As a result, Crane Heatex will now market and supply Schmidt Bretten heat exchangers in the UK. Schmidt Bretten has a very strong reputation in the plate heat exchanger market, with a major presence in the German chemical and food industries.

Over 70,000 of the company's SIGMA plate heat exchangers are reported to be operating successfully in many industries, handling a wide variety of cooling, heating, pasteurising, evaporation and condensation processes.

Recent new developments from Schmidt Bretten include the SIGMAWIG all-welded stainless steel plate heat exchanger, which is proving highly effective in operating in corrosive and other environments where leak integrity is critical.

A new plate heat exchanger gasket developed by Schmidt, which comprises a PTFE lining on an elastomeric nitrile rubber base, is said to provide a chemical resistant, cost-effective, easy to install solution for chemical and oil industry applications.

Plates for the SIGMA range are produced on a fully automated processing line developed by Schmidt at its manufacturing plant in Bretten in West Central Germany.

Crane Heatex, part of the Crane Co. of the USA, designs and builds shell and tube heat exchangers for the chemical, food, power, marine and manufacturing industries. Like Schmidt Bretten, it has a strong heat transfer problem-solving tradition, with more than 45,000 completed contracts in the UK.

Through its sister company, Crane Engineering Services, Crane Heatex provides a comprehensive erection, installation and refurbishment operation for heat exchangers and related systems, both on and off site. Commenting on the benefits of the Schmidt Bretten partnership to the company's existing customers, Crane Heatex business development manager Tony Judd says: "There is a great synergy between the two companies, whose product strengths compliment each other. The partnership further increases our product expertise in key areas and enables us to provide an even wider range of heat transfer solutions."
