Anticorrosion specialist Advanced Polymer Sciences, Inc. (APS) featured its MarineLine® cargo tank linings and its UniLine® I and II tank container lining systems at Marichem '99. Each of these product ranges is based on patented Siloxirane-polymer anticorrosion and surface protection lining systems designed and developed by APS to meet the most demanding industrial applications.

Siloxirane is describe as being resistant to 98 per cent of all corrosive acids, alkalis, solvents and fluids at various temperatures. The cross-linked polymer structure of Siloxirane-based products claims to eliminate permeation of the lining.

These are thought to be key benefits to the maritime sector in which MarineLine is said to be extensively used, meeting, it is claimed, chemical shipping tanker operators' needs for cargo handling versatility, assured product purity and effective corrosion protection.

Similar features and benefits are also said to be provided by UniLine I and II systems, which have been purpose-developed by APS to meet the specialised demands of ISO and IBC tank container owners and operators. UniLine II, for example, claims a reinforced, composite Siloxirane lining to provide significantly improved tank body protection against damage by substantial direct and reverse impact.

APS is currently developing a Siloxirane composite multiwall ISO tank container which was previewed at Marichem '99.

Europe-based manufacturing of composite tanks for container, rail and road transportation applications is planned to start in mid-2000 by Sava Advanced Polymers Ltd, of Kranj, Slovenia, a new joint venture company formed by APS and Slovenia's Sava Corporation.

Sava Advanced Polymers Ltd will also be the exclusive manufacturer, distributor and applicator of Advanced Polymer Sciences' range of patented Siloxirane protective coatings and lining systems throughout eastern Europe, covering Slovenia, Croatia and other former Yugoslavia markets, Russia and FSU countries, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, Hungary and Austria.
